As students and working professionals, our schedules are filled to the brim with activities, so it’s reasonable to ask why you should take time to draft, edit, and submit a piece to a college magazine.
Reasons why YOU should Submit
Resume & Portfolio
Confidence
Community
Inspiration
Exposure
Legacy
Resume & Portfolio
Resumes are nebulous documents that simultaneously want your entire life story and list of accomplishments, yet want you to fit it all on one page. For a student, this may be easier than we’d like. One way you can spice up your resume is to add published author to that list of accolades.
For many creatives, their portfolio is as important as their resume. Submitting to Impressions is a chance to kill two proverbial birds with one stone. You can add your work to your portfolio as a demonstration of your talent, with the published author lending credibility to your work.
Confidence
One of the biggest hurdles most amateur artists will face is finding the confidence to submit their work. Whether it's due to comparison or imposter syndrome, the hardest part is usually that first submission. Submitting to Impressions offers a smaller environment to help foster that confidence in submitting and standing behind your art. You can use Impressions as a stepping stone towards bigger and better endeavors.
Community
Submitting to Impressions brings you into a community of local artists who are passionate about their craft. Within this community, you can: Make new friends, find mentors, share ideas, and receive feedback from a supportive community. No matter where you are in your creative journey, the Impressions community is excited to welcome and support you.
Inspiration
Every artist begins their journey through inspiration, perhaps they read a book, saw a play, a painting, a cartoon, etc. No matter what form the art was in, it inspired them. Your submission will go on to inspire future artists, and you may even find inspiration yourself.
Exposure
While it likely won’t be in front of millions of eyes, there is always a chance that you may be discovered by your submission. If you don’t submit, then that chance disappears. So, create some chances and allow a bit of chaotic possibility into your life.
Legacy
When you submit your work to Impressions, you’re creating something that will endure long beyond a single semester or class. You’re leaving your mark on this college, nay, this community. You’re making an Impression!
